AN INVITATION TO APPLY TO BRITISH COLUMBIA HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY SKILLED WORKERS, GRADUATES AND ENTREPRENEURS IN EARLY AUGUST

An extensive range of skilled workers, international graduates and entrepreneurs have received an invitation to apply for the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). This invitation was send in early August, following the draw of August 2 and August 9 respectively.

The enhancement of the sub-categories aligned with the Federal Express Entry selection system has brought a portion of the invited candidates in a position to submit their BC PNP provincial nomination. Upon receiving a BC PNP nomination certificate, they will receive 600 additional points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and an Invitation to Apply (ITA) at a subsequent draw from the pool.

It should, however, be noted that the ITA with respect to the BC PNP is different from the ITA issued at the Federal Express Entry level. The applications of the remaining skilled worker and graduates invitees will be processed for permanent residence outside Express Entry after they receive a nomination from British Columbia.

Subsequent to the new initiative by British Columbia which was started last May, the early August BC PNP activity also included a ‘tech-only’ draw.

Eligible candidates, who are interested in applying for Immigration to Canada through certain categories of the BC PNP, are required to enter into the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) pool. A points score is assigned to the candidates upon entry into the pool. The score is assigned on the basis of civil status, education, work experience, and other factors. The candidates obtaining highest ranks in the SIRS pool are issued ITAs in periodic draws conducted by the government of BC.

In addition to these SIRS-based categories, 13 candidates were invited altogether under the BC Entrepreneur immigration stream.
